Mrs. Terry Bird currently serves as our principal. This past summer she and her husband to moved to St. Joseph from Raymore, MO. Mrs. Bird has over thirty-five years in the teaching ministry. She received her Bachelor of Science degree while at Concordia University, Seward, NE. Terry received her first Masters degree in Special Education from the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk). While serving in Kansas City, she pursued her second Masters degree in Education Administration and graduated from Emporia State.Serving the Lord is a great joy. Spending time with children and teachers is a special blessing. Terry and Tom have three children and six grand-daughters that now have an open invitation to visit St. Joseph anytime.
Jenna Wood received her Associates in Administrative Assistant from Minnesota State College Southeast, her Bachelors in Information Technology and Masters in Business Administration from Minnesota School of Business. Originally from Wisconsin, Jenna met her husband in Michigan and has resided in Coloma, Mi since 2008. Jenna and her husband, Grant, have three children who all attend Trinity. Together, they love traveling to Wisconsin and spending time with family.
Katie Hartfield has served 5 years total at Trinity- from the "Mom's & 2's" program, to being the Preschool coordinator, to volunteering at Trinity in various areas of family ministries. Katie has her BA in Early Childhood Education, specializing in Art from Concordia University Chicago. She has 3 children who have all attended Trinity- Abbie, Luke, and Sara Beth. When not at Trinity, Katie likes to spend time outdoors, camping, running, playing with her children, and travelling throughout the U.S.
Kim Kelly has served at Trinity since 2006. During her time here she has volunteered, been a substitute teacher, taught Kindergarten and is now in her current position as our 1st grade teacher. Kim earned her BA from Hope College and her Colloquy from Concordia. She is currently working on her Master’s Program through Grand Valley University. Kim is the mother of 3 beautiful children, Sam, Hannah, and Max who all have attended Trinity. Her husband Dave is the Principal at New Buffalo Elementary School. They have been married 23 years. They love to spend time with family, play tennis, and ride their Harley. Kim loves to be outside, plant flowers, and take walks.
Susan Case was born and baptized at Trinity. She graduated from Concordia Teachers' College in Seward, Nebraska, with a social studies/geography major and theology and psychology minors. After serving in Japan as a Volunteer Youth Minister, while teaching English as a Second Language in Japan, she accepted the Call to teach Kindergarten. She earned her master's Degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University. Since 1976, she has taught preschool-fourth grades. In 2010, Mrs. Case was honored for completing her 25th year of full-time teaching. She and her husband, Duane, live in Saint Joseph and enjoy sharing their work, the lives of their children and grandchildren (in MI, TX, OR, GA, PA, and CA), her teaching experiences, reading, and traveling.
Heather Steffens has been teaching at Trinity since 2007. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia University, River Forest and a Master’s Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Heather enjoys spending time with her husband and four children and loves living near Lake Michigan.
Laurie Mantei received her B.S. Degree from Central Michigan University, her elementary teaching license from Indiana University and Language Arts endorsements from Western Michigan University. Laurie has been a teacher for 30 years.She has taught a wide variety of grades from preschool through high school. She also teaches Driver Education in off hours. She lives in Saint Joseph with her husband Mike and two children. Mike is also a teacher at Trinity and has the 5th through 8th grade Math and Science classes. Laurie is fond of doing art, gardening and going to the library with her kids.
5th & 6th Grade
Alison Schmidt, the youngest of five children, was born and raised in Holt, MI. She graduated from a K-12 Lutheran school in 2011. She attended Concordia University, Ann Arbor and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education – Language Arts in May 2015. In her free time, Alison enjoys reading, singing, and exercising. She loves to visit her parents, siblings, nephews, and niece.
7th & 8th Grade
Louie Miltibarger has served as Facilities Manager at Trinity since 2004. After attending Trinity for elementary school, Louie graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1982. Louie and his wife, Dallas, have three children and five grandchildren.
